Allen Hospital has started construction on an expansion of its Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which will increase the second-floor unit from 12 rooms to 16.
The new rooms, along with support for the rooms, will be added south of the existing unit, where the current ICU waiting room and hospitality rooms are located. The waiting room will move to the second floor near Elevator B.
“We’ve taken on a number of projects and moves in recent months, and they’re all centered around improving the patient experience and increasing our capacity for delivering care,” says Jenni Friedly, President of the UnityPoint Health – Waterloo market. “We’re particularly eager to begin this ICU project, as there’s a growing need for this type of critical care.”
“We’ve been honored to care for so many patients, and this growth reflects the trust our community places in us,” says Lindsey Brocka, RN, Manager of the ICU at Allen Hospital. “This expansion ensures we’ll continue delivering exceptional critical care close to home.”
The ICU project is expected to be completed next summer, with the first patient day anticipated in July. Following construction of the new rooms, the existing ICU corridors will undergo a renovation so the entire unit will have a consistent, updated look.
