Miller True Value Speaks Out About Water in Lot

After the Soifer Family gave us a statement regarding the standing water in the parking lot between their McDonald’s building and Miller True Value, Miller True Value has added their input to the situation. They say the problem developed since the construction of the McDonald’s building in 2010. After a few years of McDonald’s adding to the ground water table, Miller True Value says water started bubbling out onto the parking lot. This became more regular within the last five years. Miller True Value says the Soifer Family accused them and/or the City of Waverly of having a broken water line. The City allegedly ran tests and determined there was no broken water line. Later, Miller True Value says that McDonald’s found a water line break under their building floor, which allegedly created an underground streamway. In June of last year the roadway collapsed near McDonald’s south entrance. Miller True Value claims instead of the Soifer Family working to fix the problem they just added a layer of gravel as fill and covered it with concrete. A meeting was apparently held in October between the Soifer Family, Hoffman Trenching, and a City employee to develop a plan to fix the issue but the plan was never pursued and the issue was turned over to McDonald’s corporate who has been in contact with Miller True Value. Miller True Value says they have not changed the parking lot area to affect the ground water levels. They say they are extremely concerned about public safety. They suggest customers use the alleyway behind their store or in front of Hy-Vee to get to their store when temperatures are below freezing.
