Archdiocese Clarifies Reports

The Archdiocese of Dubuque is clarifying earlier reports that they had approved renovations to the Queen of Peace Parish in Waterloo, according to KWWL. Queen of Peace suffered a partial ceiling collapse last year and deteriorating infrastructure that required the church to move their services elsewhere for safety reasons. Earlier this year it was reported that the Archdiocese had approved repairs totaling more than $2 million that would allow the congregation back into the church. The Archdiocese now says that proposal was denied and they have only approved the church to have the remaining ceiling removed to prevent further damage and to address leaks in a wall and roof. They say these repairs do no guarantee Queen of Peace’s designation as a weekend worship site in future parish groupings. The Archdiocese says their focus and money is on their Journey in Faith pastoral planning project.
