Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man who allegedly stole a vehicle in Monticello on Tuesday. Deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of T Avenue near Oelwein at around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a suspicious vehicle. When the deputy arrived on scene he found a Chevrolet Captiva. He tried to pull the Captiva over for a traffic violation but the driver sped away leading to a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 90mph. The Captiva eventually became stuck in the snow in West Union. The driver, later identified as 39 year old Jacob Ahlrichs of Onslow, tried to run but was Tasered and taken into custody. He has been charged with felony Eluding, second degree Theft, Reckless Driving, and Interference. He was convicted in November of 2021 for stealing a pickup in Manchester and selling it for scrap.
