Many Communities Losing Their Newspaper

Mid-America Publishing in Hampton stopped publishing more than 20 newspapers yesterday amid rising costs and declining circulation. The Butler County Tribune and Clarksville Star were among those owned by the Mid-America. In a Facebook post they say they initially expected to be purchased by another publishing company but that never came to pass. They say they have had to accept the reality that continuing operations in that area is no longer feasible. Some of the other newspapers were lucky enough to be purchased by another publisher. The Butler County Tribune and Clarksville Star had been in operation for nearly 200 years.
