Man Accused of Racially Abuse Against Former Mayor & Supervisor Wants Hearing

A Waterloo man accused of racially abusing a Black Hawk County Supervisor and the former mayor is asking for a hearing to determine if there is a conflict of interest in the case, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 45 year old Tyler Young has been charged with Stalking and Criminal Mischief as a Hate Crime after allegedly sending racist text messages to Tavis Hall and Quentin Hart, both of whom are Black. Young also allegedly dumped trash in both Hart and Hall’s yards and damaged vehicles parked outside their homes. Young is arguing that the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office should not be handling a case in which the victim is a Black Hawk County Supervisor due to a conflict of interest. The County Attorney’s Office denies any conflict of interest. Young, who has been receiving treatment under a mental health commitment, has been in plea negotiations with the state. He has also been charged with harassing former bosses and co-workers.
