The Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City has won a five year legal battle against the Mayo Clinic over a $10 million gift, according to KIMT. The estate of Herman Stille left the money to the FCMC for the construction of a cancer center but stipulated that if the FCMC could not meet certain conditions the money would go to the Mayo Clinic for Alzheimer’s research. A Chickasaw County judge first awarded the money to the FCMC in June of 2025. The Mayo Clinic appealed the decision to the Iowa Supreme Court. They determined that the Mayo Clinic lacked the standing to challenge the will, upholding the decision to award the money to the FCMC. The future cancer center will be known as the Stille Cancer Center.
