Waterloo Community Schools is considering adding five minutes to each class to help maintain state requirements in the new school year, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. If approved, elementary students will go to school from 8:45am to 3:50pm and secondary students from 7:40am to 2:45pm. The calendar for the new school year says the first day of classes will be August 24th and the last day will be on May 21st, weather permitting.
Two music related teachers and a marketing instructor are being laid off due to what the district calls a “reduction in force”. Central Middle School music teacher Rachel Lueders, Carver Middle School orchestra teacher Todd Williams, and the career center’s marketing instructor Jodi Ehlers will all be let go. This will all be discussed at the Board of Education meeting Monday night at 5:00 p.m. in the Education Service Center.
