Two Local Walgreens Sanctioned

Two Walgreens stores in Waterloo have been sanctioned by the state Board of Pharmacy, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. The store on West Ridgeway Avenue was part of a group of eight stores across the state that was originally sanctioned in 2023 for a variety of violations including intentionally or repeatedly violating an administrative rule requiring them to create and maintain complete and accurate records. The store also was cited for committing other unspecified acts that were “inconsistent with the public interest”. The store on University Avenue has now been accused of failing to maintain adequate records and failing to maintain accountability for its inventory of controlled substances. The store strongly contested the charges and the board agreed to settle the case with a warning. The store will need to ensure they are using Walgreens internal electronic medical recordkeeping system within the next six months.
