A crash last week along Highway 218 in Mitchell County sent a Cedar Falls man to the hospital. 64 year old Michael Swarts, of Cedar Falls, struck a pickup driven by Ian Bootsmiller of Cedar Rapids after he allegedly pulled out in front of him. Swarts hit Bootsmiller broadside and sent Bootsmiller’s vehicle into the east ditch where it sheered off a power pole. Highway 218 was closed after the powerlines crossed the road. Both drivers were transported to the Mitchell County Hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as minor.
