An off-duty Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy allegedly fired two shots from his personal rifle through his apartment wall and into his neighbors bedroom while cleaning the gun, according to Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 22 year old Tatum Gehrke was on her living room couch shortly before 11:00 p.m. Saturday when she heard a noise in her bedroom. When she went to investigate she found a haze in the air and her TV was shattered. She Facetimed her boyfriend who told her to call police. Police found that two bullets had been shot into Gehrke’s apartment by her next door neighbor. The neighbor has only been publicly identified as a sheriff’s deputy. That deputy allegedly failed to check on their neighbor after the shooting or contact police. The police did seize the rifle and have referred the results of their investigation to the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office. The sheriff’s office says they are aware of the incident and is reviewing the matter. No charges have been filed to this point.
