Man Arrested for His Neglecting Helpless Wife

A Waterloo man has been arrested for allegedly leaving his wife on the floor for more than week in February, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police arrested 63 year old Charles Baer on Wednesday for Dependent Adult Abuse. They allege Baer’s 62 year old wife, who suffers from several medical issues and was dependent upon Baer, fell at the couple’s Sherman Avenue home sometime in February and was unable to get up. Instead of helping her up, Baer allegedly left her there for up to 10 days, eating food in front of her without offering her any and stepping on her hands. Finally, on February 25th Baer allegedly drunkenly went to Allen Hospital and told staff his wife was on the floor and needed help. Police and paramedics arrived at the home and found Baer’s wife still on the floor and the house in an unsanitary condition. The wife was taken to the hospital, following which she was released to another family member. She also got a civil restraining order against Baer. Baer was shortly thereafter evicted from the home.
