The City of Waverly’s sanitary sewer Cured-in-Place Lining Project is underway and that may produce a weird smell. During the curing process, some residents may notice a temporary odor similar to plastic, glue, or resin. That comes from the liner material used to create new pipe and is normal. The smell is temporary and should dissipate shortly after the work is completed. To prevent odors from entering a home keep windows and doors closed while the work is taking place nearby, pour water into floor drains, basement drains, and other infrequently used fixtures to ensure the P-traps are full, and run water briefly in rarely used sinks, tubs, or showers before the scheduled work begins. The contractor will provide notice to residents prior to work starting in their area. While the liner is installed and cured inside the sewer pipe residents are asked to avoid taking showers or baths, running dish washers, running washing machines, and draining large amounts of water from sinks.
