Officer Shot Suspect After Alleged Drive By

A Waterloo Police Officer allegedly shot a suspect after an alleged drive by shooting Wednesday night, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Neighbors called police at around 9:30pm after allegedly witnessing a person in the passenger seat of a vehicle open fire on a house in the area of Western Avenue and West Third Street. No damage was discovered but witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle and the alleged shooter. About 10 minutes after the initial shooting police located the vehicle. They conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 800 block of Sycamore Street. The details of what happened next are unknown but an officer fired his weapon and an adult male was injured. The man was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The man’s condition and his identity have not been released to this point. The officer has been placed on critical incident leave pending the outcome of an investigation from the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations.
