A former Charles City police lieutenant is suing the City, Police Chief Hugh Anderson, and City Administrator Tyler Trout after being fired in January, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Casey Mallory began working as a police officer in 2011 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2016. A year later, he took a part time job providing security at the Pure Prairie Poultry processing plant with approval from the police department. Last September Chief Anderson began investigating a rumor that Mallory was double dipping – working for the poultry plant while on the clock for the police. Mallory was placed on administrative leave in October, before being fired in January. Former Waterloo Police Chief, now working as a private investigator, Joe Leibold, conducted his own investigation and, according to the lawsuit, found the rumor to be false. Mallory continues to work for Pure Prairie Poultry and has never been disciplined at that job.
