Council Approves Ped Bridge

The Waverly City Council has decided the replacement for a historic bridge will be designed only for pedestrians – no cars or trucks. The council voted 4-3 Monday for one of the 18 pedestrian-only options for crossing the Cedar River. The new bridge’s estimated cost: nearly $1.4 million. The 100-year-old structure it will replace is known as the “green bridge” for the color of its metal. It’s been closed since February 2015, after inspectors found corrosion on vital parts.
