A Waterloo man has been indicted on gun charges after police found a rifle and a sawed-off shotgun while searching his home in a drug investigation in March.
A federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Traeves Dashonn Bowers, 32, with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun on Nov. 7. On Thursday a judge ordered Bowers remain in custody until trial. He is currently at the Linn County Jail in Cedar Rapids. According to court records, officers with Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crimes team and the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force searched Bowers’s Shilliam Avenue home on March 21 and seized marijuana, scales, an MAS bolt action rifle and a 12-gauge Marlin shotgun with a barrel under 18 inches. Authorities allege Bowers was prohibited from possessing firearms because he was using marijuana.
