Republican State Senator and Majority Leader Bill Dix, of Shell Rock, has resigned from that position. This comes after a video showing Dix kissing a woman, who is not his wife, at a bar was posted by the progressive political website Iowa Starting Line. The woman has been described as a Des Moines lobbyist. Dix submitted a one sentence resignation letter that did not include a reason for stepping down. This is not the first scandal involving Dix’s office. Last year Dix fired a staff member after she had reported sexual harassment by another staffer. The state settled for nearly $2 million with the woman.
Governor Kim Reynolds is expected to call for a special election within five days to fill Dix seat.
