A Charles City man already serving federal prison time will be arraigned for killing a retired grocer from Nashua a decade ago, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office filed first degree Murder charges against 49 year old Randy Patrie in January. Patrie had long been suspected of shooting 70 year old Carl “Ken” Gallmeyer in the head, possibly while he slept in his rural home. Patrie was later seen carrying items from Gallmeyer’s home. An investigation found Gallmeyer’s television mounted to the wall of Patrie’s bedroom. They also found three of Gallmeyer’s guns along with a sawed off .410 shotgun thought to be the murder weapon. Authorities believe Patrie targeted Gallmeyer because he believed Gallmeyer had a safe full of gold and silver. At Patrie’s sentencing on weapons charges in 2014 the judge concluded he was involved in the killing and sentenced him to life in prison, however that sentence was overturned and he was resentenced to 20 years.
