Altered Shotgun Leads to Arrest

A Waterloo man has been arrested after police found an altered shotgun while checking on an unconscious man, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police were called to the 100 block of West Mullan Avenue around 8:20 Monday morning. During a search of the 24 year old Justin Barnes’ bag, police found the gun loaded with two slugs. It had its serial number scratched off and the buttstock was chopped off. Barnes told police he found the gun and was going to throw it away. A single clonazepan pill was also found in the bag. Barnes was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon, carrying weapons, and possession of a controlled substance.
