A roundabout is being planned for the outskirts of Cedar Falls at a dangerous intersection, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A safety analysis for the intersection of West First Street or Iowa Highway 57 and North Union Road found that a roundabout would be best option due to the amount of left hand turns from North Union Road onto West First Street headed into Cedar Falls. The intersection is on the western edge of town and the Department of Transportation estimates 7,000 vehicles drive through there every day. Residents pleaded with the City Council to make improvements after six people were injured there in November. Construction of the single lane roundabout is expected to begin in 2026 but there is no timeline at this point.
