The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of an Arlington man who is serving up to six decades in prison for molesting girls in 2014, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 45 year old Leroy Kula Jr. was convicted in 2016 of second degree Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. In his appeal, he claimed that his trial attorney should have put his mother and another relative on the stand. He argued they would have testified that he was never alone with his 4 and 6 year old victims. The court determined even if they would have been called and testified as such, their testimony would have been contradicted by video showing Kula alone in a bedroom with one of the girls while she was only wearing underwear. Kula had set up an extensive surveillance system that recorded his sexual contact with the girls. Family members noticed the girls acting emotional and crying for unknown reasons and acting out sexual behavior with Barbie dolls. The girls eventually told their mother what happened and she went to authorities.
