The Cedar Falls Public Safety Department has turned to deputies from the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office to patrol the college hill area on the weekends, according to KWWL. Fights have continued to break out in that area near the UNI campus and in an effort to put a stop to the violence, more law enforcement have been brought in. As for why they have brought in Sheriff’s Deputies, well, that is down to money. It costs $40 an hour to pay the deputies, it would cost $52 an hour to pay overtime to Cedar Falls officers. Public Safety Director Jeff Olson told KWWL that they expect the need for the extra law enforcement to go down as the weather gets colder.
