Campus Rape Trials Could Combine

Prosecutors in the trials of a North Liberty man who allegedly raped a woman near Hawkeye Community College and another on the UNI campus are asking to combine the cases into one, however the defense is resisting, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 25 year old Asante Adams has been charged with Burglary and Sexual Assault in a March 10th attack near Hawkeye. Then, on April 10th, he allegedly carried out a similar attack at an apartment at UNI. Investigators say Adams is suspected of very similar crimes in Iowa City and Center Point as well. The attacks all including the perpetrator brandishing a knife, wrapping the victim’s head while carrying out the rape, and taking the victim’s phone so they cannot call for help. The suspect descriptions in each case have also been very similar. A hearing on the combining of the cases will be held at a later date.
