Carrie Chapman Catt Awards

A record 31 schools have qualified for Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Carrie Chapman Catt Award, according to KWWL. The award goes to schools who register at least 90 percent of their eligible students to vote. Two schools that KWAY covers made the list. Tripoli has been recognized for the first time while Denver wins the award for the second time. Carrie Chapman Catt was a women’s suffrage leader that campaigned for women to be granted the right to vote. She grew up outside of Charles City. You can still visit her childhood home.
