A second person has been arrested in string of catalytic converter thefts in Waterloo, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 34 year old Cyrus Freidhof was arrested on Thursday for Ongoing Criminal Conduct and Second Degree Theft. Authorities say Freidhof and 33 year old Shane Mehmen were behind most of the catalytic converter thefts in the Waterloo Cedar Falls area this year. Mehmen was arrested at Freidhof’s home back on November 3rd. Freidhof’s security cameras showed him carrying a bag of converters into the home. Mehmen had also been arrested in August after he was caught trying to cut a converter from a Volkswagen. In that case a receipt was found showing he had sold a thousands of dollars worth of converters to a metal recycling center as scrap.
