The City of Cedar Falls is continuing to monitor river level projections and work on appropriate flood preparedness procedures. As of 6:45 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, the Cedar River was at 88.7 feet according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). At this level, water covers the bike path at George Wyth Park and starts to cover the north and south legs of Cottage Row Road south of Snag Creek. According to NOAA, the Cedar River is currently expected to crest at 92.90 feet at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26. In that event, water will flood Tourist Park and Island Park. Water will be in the southeast corner of Gateway Park and cover Riverside Drive south of Beech Street. It will cover portions of Lake Street, Ford Road south of Fitkin Road, Roosevelt, and Beech Street in addition to Grant Street at Horty Street and Lincoln Street west of Independence Avenue. At this level, the public can possibly expect road closures on portions of Lincoln Street. Be aware of parking prohibitions in areas that may be impacted by flooding and watch for signage related to those potential closures especially if attending the Sturgis Falls celebration this week. Cedar Falls Public Safety reminds residents to stay away from floodwater and to never drive through a flooded roadway. Weather conditions are subject to change which impacts road and parking closures so please be aware and abide by City posted signs and barriers in relation to these closures for your safety. City staff will continue to monitor the river levels and provide press releases as needed. Flood information can be found on the City’s webpage at www.cedarfalls.com/812/Flood-Information. Residents can also monitor and view the current river level at water.noaa.gov/gauges/CEDI4. A brochure is available online which includes what to do to prepare for a flood and streets that may be impacted. These can also be picked up in the City Hall lobby.
