Not even 2 hours into the new year and Cedar Falls saw its first case of gun violence Tuesday morning. The shooting took place around 1:45 am on The Hill near the University of Northern Iowa campus, that area is known for its nightlife. According to police several shots were fired from a handgun into a crowd of people. Two people were injured in the shooting, both were taken to the hospital with what were described as non life threatening gunshot wounds. Police did chase a suspect but that suspect was able to elude police on foot and escape into the neighborhood surrounding The Hill. That suspect has not yet been named. Its unclear what may have been the motive for the shooting.
The two shooting victims are:
Corey Jermaine Dunn Jr., age 18, of Waterloo, IA.
Sincere Lanae Jones, age 18, of Waterloo, IA.
