A crash last week along Highway 218 in Mitchell County sent a Cedar Falls man to the hospital. 64 year old Michael Swarts, of Cedar Falls, struck a pickup driven by Ian Bootsmiller of Cedar Rapids after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled out in front of Swarts. Swarts hit Bootsmiller broadside and sent Bootsmiller’s vehicle into the east ditch where it sheered off a power pole. Highway 218 was closed after the powerlines crossed the road. Both drivers were transported to the Mitchell County Hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as minor.
