A Cedar Falls man has received a deferred judgment after stealing money from an older relative, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 61 year old Scot Morris had power of attorney over an older female relative who lived at Cedar Stone Senior Living. The facility went to the Iowa Department of Human Services last year over more than $38,000 worth of unpaid bills. Investigators looked into the woman’s account and found that Morris had written nearly $10,000 worth of checks from the account to himself and had used the accounts debit card for personal purchases. He pleaded guilty to second degree Theft Against An Older Person and sentenced to five years of probation and must pay restitution. Because of the deferred judgment, if he completes his probation the conviction will be wiped from his record.
