The Cedar Falls City Council has approved the appointment of a new Public Safety Director. Craig Berte, who has been serving as the acting director following the retirement of Jeff Olson in March, has been named the permanent director. Berte has been with the Cedar Falls police since 1991 and has served as an Officer, Investigator, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Director/Assistant Police Chief, and Police Chief. He is a graduate of UNI and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. He will assume his new position on June 25th. He will then oversee the hiring process for a new Cedar Falls Police Chief.
