Cedar Falls Police Chief Craig Berte has been named the Interim Public Safety Director, according to KWWL. Current Director, Jeff Olson, will retire at the end of the week after spending 36 years with the city of Cedar Falls. Berte has been with the Cedar Falls Police Department for 32 years and has been cross trained as a firefighter since 2005. He says his biggest concern stepping into the position is the political discourse surrounding public safety and how it is effecting their employees. Berte also says he wants to improve the message to the public and the department’s use of social media. The City of Cedar Falls is now beginning the process of finding Olson’s permanent replacement.
