Chemical Agents End Bremer Co Standoff

The following is a release from the Bremer Country Sheriff’s Office:

On 4/8/22 at approximately 5:30 am the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office took a report of an erratic driver on 260th Street, east of Denver. When Deputies arrived on scene, the driver, Joshua Smith, 42, of Oelwein, fled on foot. Deputies searched for Smith and later located him at a residence in the 2700 block of Navaho. After nearly a two-hour standoff, chemical agents were deployed and Smith was taken into custody without further incident. Smith was charged with burglary 3 degree (second offense), interference with official acts, and driving while license revoked. The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, Denver Police Department, Denver Ambulance Service, and Bremer County Dispatch.
