The company that owns a chicken processing plant in Charles City has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in Minnesota, according to KIMT. Pure Prairie Poultry says it owes hundreds of debtors between 100 million and 500 million dollars but only has between 50 million and 100 million dollars in assets. Among the debtors is the City of Charles City, which is owed more than $500,000. Pure Prairie Poultry bought the Charles City plant from Simply Essentials in 2021 and planned to add 400 jobs by this year but the plant has been closed since 2019.
