The Cedar Falls Fire Chief position is nearly filled, according to KWWL. John Zolondek has emerged as the preferred candidate over fellow finalist Chris Ledeker. Zolondek, who has been with the Cedar Falls Public Safety Department since 2007 and is the current Acting Fire Chief, will be considered for the full position at the next city council meeting on June 5th. Zolondek graduated from St. Ambrose University and holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He has also served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mayor Rob Green and Public Safety Director Craig Berte picked Zolondek from a group of 11 applicants.
