Area towns are preparing for the potential for flooding. The City of Waverly says they are monitoring river levels closely as forecasts indicate the potential for flooding in the coming days. Forecasts show that water levels may rise significantly due to recent and expected rainfall. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Cedar River at Cedar Falls is expected to crest at 92.5 feet around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. At that level, water affects the southeast corner of Gateway Park and portions of Lake Street, as well as the north parking lot of Island Park. Water also affects Riverside Drive south of Beech Street, the north half of Tourist Park, portions of Cottage Row Road, and the bike path at George Wyth State Park. The public is reminded to stay away from floodwaters and never drive through a flooded roadway.
