The City of Waterloo is seeking to suspend a downtown strip club’s alcohol license for a year in response to a stabbing and recent fights in and around the club, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The City of Waterloo has been in litigation with Charmed LLC, which operates Flirts Gentlemen’s Club, since April but on Monday the City’s attorney officially asked a judge to suspend the club’s alcohol license for a year and to reduce the hours it could serve alcohol once the suspension is over to 6am to 10pm. Charmed says that the recent stabbing was the result of an ongoing conflict that had nothing to do with the club or alcohol consummed there. They have, instead, offered to extend the use of a walk through metal detector and ID card scanning for incoming patrons and to upgrade security cameras and outdoor lighting. Those measures were put in place in 2023 after a previous nuisance complaint and allegedly reduced calls for service dramatically. Judge Brook Jacobsen is expected to make his ruling in the case soon.
