The former Hampton Dumont CAL head girls soccer coach who admitted having sex with a student has been granted a new trial, according to KIMT. 29 year old Ismael Rodriguez Torres pleaded guilty to Lascivious Conduct with a Minor after admitting to having sex with the student in December of 2022. He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation but in October he was notified by the federal government that he was not a legal resident of the United States and would be deported back to Mexico. Rodriguez Torres argued that he was never told that his guilty plea could result in his deportation. A Franklin County judge agreed, saying no matter his chances of being acquitted, he has the right to try and avoid the charges and being deported. Rodriguez Torres’ conviction has been expunged and a new trial has been ordered.
