Community Rallies Around Injured Teen

A local teenager is at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester after the tractor he is riding is slammed by an SUV.

The crash happening on Highway 57, Monday evening.

The driver of the SUV rear-ended the tractor causing both vehicles to roll and ejecting 19 year old Carter Bixby from the cab of the tractor.

Being thrown from the tractor, Carter Bixby had a brain bleed, collapsed lung, damage to his right eye and multiple broken bones. He was also nearly run over by the tractor which righted itself and kept running.  Initially, doctors were worried Carter might have brain damage and lose his right eye, but his condition quickly improved in the first 24 hours. The bleeding in his brain has stopped and he may be able to regain some vision in his eye.

A 2015 graduate of Dike-New Hartford High School, the community has rallied around Carter and his family.

A Go Fund Me started by an other of Carter’s uncles asked for $1500 to cover Carter’s parents stay in Rochester with him.

But in just 10 hours, more than $12,000 has been donated.
