The Waterloo Board of Education will consider a couple controversial policies at Monday night’s meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the Education Service Center, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A new policy says that parents and guardians can object to materials used at school. They also would be able to request that their child not be able to access certain materials. A comprehensive list of books in the media centers will be published on the school’s website, parents can request that their children not have access to any of those books. Parents will not be able to object to teachers’ lesson plans but parents can still object to their children learning about human growth and development in health class. That was already on the books. A new change to health classes will see sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS no longer discussed. The board is also expected to discuss the school calendar and a limit on virtual instruction.
