Conversion Therapy Ban Repealed

A conversion therapy ban in Waterloo has been repealed, just three months after it was put in place, according to KWWL. The City Council voted 4-3 Monday night to repeal on two readings. Conversion therapy is the practice of attempting to make someone who is not a heterosexual become heterosexual. Most experts agree the practice is ineffective and sometimes irreparably harmful. Most of the citizens who spoke at the council meeting spoke in opposition to the repeal. Councilman John Chiles described the situation as horrible but voted for the repeal because the ban would have led to litigation that they had been assured they could not win.
