The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a man who caused a head on collision that killed one of his passengers on Highway 218 outside Janesville, according to KWWL. Willie Walker and three passengers were traveling northbound on March 28th of last year when, for unknown reasons, Walker crossed the median and crashed head on with a pickup truck. Walker’s passenger, 27 year old Azra Ponjevic was killed in the crash. Walker filed a motion for a new trial on the morning of his sentencing, arguing the verdict was contrary to the evidence. The district court denied the motion as untimely and without merit before sentencing Walker to prison. The Iowa Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction this week saying Walker’s motion was filed too late and that the district court did not abuse its discretion in denying the motion.
