After more than an hour of discussion, the Waverly City Council decided not to approve plans for the Waverly Green Bridge that sits on Third Street southeast just south of downtown Waverly.
The council voted 4-3 against a motion to accept the contract at an estimated $2.8 million. Ward 1 Councilman Dan Lampe, Ward 3 Councilman Wes Gade and At-Large Councilman David Reznicek voted for the measure.
Opposing the resolution were Ward 2 Councilman Dan McKenzie, Ward 4 Councilman Mike Sherer, Ward 5 Councilman Tim Kangas and At-Large Councilwoman Edith Waldstein.
The city closed the century old Green Bridge in 2015 because of structural problems.
