An Ionia woman went to the hospital after her SUV hit the rear wheels of a semi tractor trailer in Shell Rock Monday morning. The Iowa State Patrol said about 6:40 a.m. 42-year-old Anna Schmitz was driving east on Highway 3 when she crossed the center line and hit the rear duals of the semi trailer which was traveling west. The patrol said an ambulance took Schmitz to a hospital with unspecified injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt, according to a crash report. Troopers said the semi was transporting liquid asphalt, but there was no tank leakage or spill. They said they’re still investigating the crash and charges are pending.
