A collision in Hawkeye led to the discovery of a missing teenager in Oelwein. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident at the intersection of West Wilbur Street and South Burrell Street on Saturday shortly after 10:30am. Deputies determined that 52 year old Regina Larson of Oelwein had pulled into the intersection and oversteered into the lane of a vehicle driven by 37 year old Samantha Corsbie of Garnavillo. No injuries were reported but Corsbie’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damage while Larson’s received approximately $1,500 in damage. As the investigation continued a deputy began to smell illegal substances in Larson’s vehicle. The deputy then located 19 grams of Methamphetamine. Larson was charged with a Controlled Substance Violation, Possession Methamphetamine- 2nd offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Yield Upon Entering Through the Highway. Evidence collected at the scene of the crash led deputies to a home in Oelwein where they, along with Oelwein Police, executed a search warrant. During the search they found two individuals hiding, one behind a fake wall, and another in the insulation in the attic. They also seized illegal substances. 34 year old Michael Bushaw was charged with a Controlled Substance Violation, Possession of a Controlled Substance- 3rd or subsequent offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Harboring a Runaway, and Interference With Official Acts. Bushaw was also wanted on a Buchanan County Warrant for Failure to Appear. A 16 year old boy who had been reported missing and had a warrant for his arrest was also taken into custody. He will be charged in Juvenile Court.
