Crash Sends Children to Hospital

A car crash Wednesday evening left at least five people injured, one with life-threatening injuries, in downtown Waterloo. Police said it happened just after 6:30 p.m. at East First Street and Sycamore Street downtown when a pickup driving west on Sycamore Street hit a minivan traveling north on First Street. Police said at least 4 children in the minivan were injured. One was flown to University of Iowa Hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries.  She later died from her injuries. The others had non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not yet released the names of those involved. Witnesses report seeing police arrest one man after the crash.
