John Deere has agreed to pay a nearly $10 million penalty after one of its subsidiaries bribed Thai officials, according to KWWL. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission found that Deere and Company subsidiary, Wirtgen Thailand violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act between 2017 and 2020. During that time Wirtgen employees bribed Thai government officials with the Royal Thai Air Force, the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads. The bribes were to win government contracts and employees of a private company were bribed to win sales. The bribes consisted of cash payments and massage parlor visits. Deere has agreed to pay disgorgement and prejudgment interest in the amount of $5.4million and a civil penalty of $4.5 million.
