A Waterloo teenager who was deported while awaiting trial for fatally striking a man with his car, has been detained in Texas after re-entering the United States, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Juan Alejo was just 17 when he allegedly drunkenly struck 67 year old Robert Chambers who was returning home from the store with the help of his guide dog on September 9th of 2020. Chambers would die of his injuries in October of 2020. Alejo was charged with Homicide by Vehicle/Intoxication. He posted a $100,000 bond but then was deported to Mexico.
