Dunkerton Police Chief/Softball Coach Arrested

Dunkerton Chief of Police Kate Krieger has been arrested. Krieger turned herself into the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office Thursday and was charged with felonious misconduct in office, 2nd degree theft, and four counts of tampering with records. The 25 year old Krieger is accused of claiming to be on duty in Dunkerton when she was actually on duty in Iowa Falls. This led to Krieger failing to respond to a domestic disturbance call in Dunkerton. Krieger’s phone shows she ordered food in Iowa Falls at that time. On another occasion she failed to notify dispatchers that she was on the job so when another domestic disturbance call came in Sheriff’s deputies had to respond despite Krieger being just blocks away. She also allegedly failed to attend a Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau class she said she was at in March. Krieger’s attorney, Tom Frerichs, says they believe the charges are excessive and unjustified. Krieger plans to plead not guilty. Krieger was also the head coach of the Dunkerton Softball team and appeared on Sports Spotlight just two weeks ago and claimed that being placed on leave was not because of anything bad.  She instead talked about balancing her coaching and policing.
