The Waverly City Council has voted unanimously to dissolve the economic development commission, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. This was the first of three readings to do away with the nine member panel that has been around since 2008. Administrator James Bronner said the commission no longer serves a significant purpose and the city would do better with a much smaller, more nimble group of hired professionals. Bronner said it had become an issue just scheduling a meeting and having a quorum. He also pointed out that the meetings being public was an issue for some businesses who did not want to talk about plans in preliminary stages. Bronner said while Waverly is a friendly community, they have a propensity to go to Facebook to discuss businesses coming to town and different plans when they should not.
